About immersive exhibitions
At the beginning of the 21st century, as a result of the development of the creative economy, which is based on engaging audiences through emotions and entertainment, immersive technologies appeared. This new and complex phenomenon is rapidly being implemented in cultural institutions. In recent years, immersive shows in theatres, the effect of immersion in cinemas, pop-up galleries and digital art exhibitions have gained great popularity.
Among others, immersive exhibitions deserve special attention. This format combines the capabilities of modern multimedia technologies with traditions. It presents a narrative to the visitor using sound, light and images which are placed panoramically around them, creating an effect of immersion. The viewer is immersed in the atmosphere of the exhibition space as a reality, allowing the boundaries between the audiences and the world of art to disappear.
The bright example of world-famous immersive exhibitions created on the basis of paintings by outstanding artists are Immersive Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, Taras Shevchenko.
In today's world, the creation and presentation of immersive exhibitions is a great opportunity to introduce innovative exhibition approaches and to promote Ukraine around the world as an innovative country that has modern cultural values. Our team understood that this format had potential and in 2021 created and presented its first project ""Immersive Shevchenko: Soul of Ukraine"", and in 2022 "Ukraine: Land of the Brave". Both projects have already become known internationally.
Technological component of immersive exhibitions:
In order to demonstrate immersive exhibitions, one would require a space of at least 400 square meters, with a ceiling height of at least 5 meters, and the technology to project visual content 360 degrees around the room as well as the floors. The immersive content must be adapted to each space based on the specifications. This is a rather expensive process and there are not many spaces that meet the technical requirements to host these exhibits.
We created a virtual tour of the exhibition and the website in two languages (Ukrainian\English) in order to give everyone the opportunity to virtually visit the immersive exhibition "Ukraine: Land of the Brave". This significantly expands the audience beyond the cities with immersive galleries and makes it possible to visit the exhibition without leaving the comfort of one's home.
